Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. Therefore, a synesthetic can hear colors or see sounds. Researchers have found that all babies under four months of age have synesthetic brains, but only a few still carry the traits into adulthood.
